How Technology is Revolutionizing Sustainability?

Utilities Tech Outlook | Monday, February 01, 2021

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rising network of Internet-connected devices in our lives today. One of the main benefits of IoT is the ability to track the operation of all your computers. This is where sustainability will benefit.

Fremont, CA: As the challenge of climate change becomes more urgent, sustainability is becoming a more pressing issue for businesses of all kinds. This problem doesn't only matter to the company, either. More than half of consumers are expected to purchase sustainable goods, and 31 percent of customers would be out of the way to do so.

Technology is used to make our lives simpler, but it can also be the key to protecting the environment. Technological developments in recent years have made sustainable living more feasible than ever before.

From large-scale, sweeping improvements to day-to-day adaptations, here are 3 ways technology is revolutionizing sustainability.

1. Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rising network of Internet-connected devices in our lives today. One of the main benefits of IoT is the ability to track the operation of all your computers. This is where sustainability will benefit.

Using IoT-enabled appliances can help to reduce energy waste. You can set the lights and air conditioning or heating systems to turn off automatically after a certain period or shut them off remotely while you're away. IoT can also help businesses track and enhance the life cycle of their goods.

2. Power Storage

Batteries are nothing new, but they're getting much more effective. In the past, energy sources such as solar power have been unsuccessful due to the difficulties of storing the energy they produce. Modern battery systems, such as Tesla's Powerwall, allow people and businesses to store and use power in a much less wasteful manner.

3. Analytics of Big Data

Big data is central to online marketing, but it also has many applications to boost sustainability. Through gathering and analyzing vast data pools, businesses may become more knowledgeable about environmental issues.

Companies should look at their energy consumption and use big data to highlight places where they can boost performance. These insights will also provide companies with a robust image of their overall environmental effects and quantify future environmental risks.
