Precision Filtration Engineered for Advanced Contaminants

Water quality standards have evolved significantly over the years. Filtration systems using activated carbon and ion exchange were designed to remove metallic taste, visible colour and odour. But today’s water compositions are far more complex. Trace pharmaceutical compounds, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and industrial solvents are now part of the water stream. Being highly soluble and chemically resilient, they slip through broad-spectrum filters unchecked and require solutions built with greater precision. This is where instrAction makes a difference. Its intelligent absorber (iA) technology applies the principle of molecular selectivity, enabling treatment systems to target and capture these emerging contaminants while preserving the natural balance of water. At the core of iA are porous support materials, silica gel and polystyrene, coated with a strong polymer framework that provides stability and durability. On top of this, instrAction engineers attach ligands, specialised binding groups designed to recognise and capture specific contaminants at the molecular level. As water passes through, the ligands selectively bind pollutants like PFAS, while allowing essential minerals and benign background compounds to flow freely. “Our compact filter designs combine efficiency, precision and ease of use with the performance of full-scale treatment systems,” says Florian Rohde, managing director and CEO. “By maintaining high flow rates without compromising selectivity, they make advanced water purification practical and reliable, whether in a household kitchen, a commercial facility or an industrial plant.” Selective Filtration for Every Setting Generic filters treat every contaminant the same, and in doing so, often miss the ones that matter most. instrAction takes a different path. Its absorbers are designed with intent—each one tailored to a specific challenge, whether that’s pulling out PFAS, capturing toxic metals or even recovering precious elements from industrial waste streams. Take PFAS as an example. These “forever chemicals” are among the most persistent and dangerous in our water. The P Series is engineered with functionalised binding sites that lock onto both long- and short-chain PFAS molecules. Its chemistry enables removal down to trace levels while extending service life. Performance across applications is reliable and as varied as drinking water systems, industrial wastewater treatment and environmental remediation. But heavy metals present a different challenge. Lead, mercury and cadmium often show up in higher, fluctuating concentrations. Municipal plants and mining runoff systems must contend with unpredictable flow rates, shifting pH levels, and high solids content—all of which strain conventional media. instrAction’s T Series is built to withstand those variables. With its strong binding capacity and mechanical durability, it maintains efficiency even under continuous, high-throughput operation.

Turning Everyday Water into a Wellness Engine

What if water could do more than just hydrate? What if it could energise, optimise, and even heal? That’s the idea behind Evodrop, a Swiss firm reimagining tap water as a biofunctional “wellness port” through ultranano filtration, molecular restructuring, and hydrogen infusion. Simply put, its optimisation, not just filtration. Through proprietary nanomembranes, dissolved hydrogen and the world’s first bio-based scale inhibitors, Evodrop enhances water’s biological, chemical, and structural properties to support better health and performance. From academic labs to elite sports facilities, Evodrop, with its patented and unique products, is positioning itself as a next-gen water brand for wellness-conscious consumers, performance-driven athletes, and sustainability-minded enterprises. The Nanomembrane Advantage At the core is the EVOfilter, a patented Swiss-engineered ultranano polymer membrane with ~0.5 nm pores (0.0005 µm). This membrane removes more than 600 contaminants, including PFAS, microplastics, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, viruses, and bacteria, while retaining beneficial minerals. Unlike conventional reverse osmosis, it achieves high contaminant removal without producing brine or relying on chemical backwashing. The system is certified with FDA, CE, RoHS, and MOCA marking, and lab-verified for pollutant removal scope. “We keep the filtration, lose the guilt,” says Fabio Hüther, Evodrop’s 29-year-old co-founder and chief technologist. Scaling Without Salt Limescale is another challenge Evodrop tackles. Most softeners swap calcium for sodium using ion-exchange resins, flushing brine down the drain. Evodrop’s point-of-entry softening uses patented food grade malic acid to chelate calcium and prevent scale, rather than conventional salt-based ion-exchange softeners that discharge brine. Tests show up to ~94 per cent scale protection, with no loss of essential minerals and without sodium discharge, reducing environmental impact.All this was recognised. In 2025, Evodrop received the Aquatech Innovation Award in the “Green Chemicals for Water Technology” category and a German Innovation Award (Gold) for its impact on the Circular Economy, particularly descaling technology. Once filtration “cleans the canvas,” the optional EVOcharge module “repaints” it. Inspired by Nobel laureate Peter Agre’s discovery of aquaporins—the cellular channels that let water through—EVOcharge turbulently re-clusters H₂O molecules, allowing them to pass through cell membranes more efficiently.
