Climate consciousness is quickly becoming an invaluable trait for all businesses seeking to compete in today’s ever-changing market. Without a sustainability plan for continued growth, businesses are left with unaddressed challenges and disagreements with environmental regulators that could ultimately hinder their success.

Econse alleviates these stressors for water-intensive small businesses, especially in the craft brewing, cannabis, and agricultural industries, by working with local regulators and community leaders and offering turnkey decentralized wastewater solutions at incredibly affordable prices. A water technology company, Econse is driven by the goal of stopping water pollution at the source.

Born from a dedication to revitalizing local economies while respecting environmental responsibilities, Econse is at the forefront of developing innovative wastewater treatment and sustainability solutions, such as the BrüClean System designed specifically for the craft brewing industry.

“We recognize that in order to encourage businesses to adopt new technology and become sustainable, the technologies have to be extremely effective, simple to operate, and affordable,” says Derek Davy, CEO of Econse. “That is the gap we are trying to bridge with Econse: helping our clients with solutions that are compact and do not cost millions of dollars.”

Econse has been successful in this regard. Since its inception, the company has provided many small businesses with affordable wastewater solutions and has acted as the primary point of contact for any issues arising post-implementation. One success story is that of Fenelon Falls Brewery in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario. As part of the water-intensive industry, small breweries are expected to be increasingly mindful of their effluent outputs.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Econse partnered with Fenelon to install the automated BrüClean system to treat their effluent discharge, ultimately reducing the environmental and economic burden on the brewery and the town. This allowed the brewery to continue growing their business in an environmentally conscious manner.

The most attractive aspect of Econse solutions is their ease of use, which is demonstrated by their implementation of user-friendly interface and automated sensor technology to continuously monitor water quality combined with readily available support, eradicating the need for third-party plant operators or service providers. This significantly reduces capital and operational expenditures compared to traditional biological systems.

Deeply committed to client relationships, Econse seeks to foster a positive experience while enabling businesses to pivot from traditional methods of operation and supporting their sustainability initiatives. “Customer relationships are everything for us,” says Davy. “We’re a small business too, so we understand how important it is to be present and accountable for all our clients. We not only design, build, and install these systems, but we also provide ongoing technical support and service for our customers.”

Econse is driven by the idea that small businesses and rural communities should have equal access to sustainability solutions that are tailored to their unique needs. As a company, it is prepared to tackle the most critical water challenges and do so with a continued growth mindset. Econse is elated to open a new office outside of Buffalo, New York, and is eager to comprehensively address issues with small businesses, regulators, and engineering firms.

For Econse, success boils down to one key factor–– helping businesses achieve their goals and grow sustainably by allowing them to preserve water and do their bit in solving the climate crisis.

Econse Helps Round Table Brewery Launch With On-Site, Sustainable, Wastewater Treatment

With the BrüClean System from Econse Water Technologies, this new brewery is taking a proactive—and necessary—step to safeguard water in the Hudson Valley

LOCKPORT - The Hudson Valley, known for its scenic beauty, unfortunately faces the challenge of having some of the most polluted water in the United States. Instead of contributing to the issue or awaiting additional regulations, Round Table Brewery commenced operations with a commitment to clean and sustainable business practices from the outset. In pursuit of their wastewater management objectives, they enlisted the expertise of Econse, leveraging innovative technologies to enable them to cut costs, diminish environmental impact, and foster sustainable growth.

"Operating sustainably certainly isn't the simplest choice, but in our mind it was the only choice," says Ricardo Petroni, of Round Table Brewery. "We're part of this community, so protecting its resources is a responsibility we take seriously. When it came to our wastewater, Econse was the perfect choice. Their system fits in the brewery, is simple to operate, and allows us to produce great beer without negatively impacting water in the region."

Round Table Brewery envisions substantial expansion in the future, and the BrüClean System is poised to evolve alongside their growth. This scalable solution is well-suited for both startup and well-established craft brewers, accommodating their needs whether they operate on a septic or municipal water system.

"We designed BrüClean with small to medium sized breweries in mind," says Derek Davy, CEO Econse. "Our compact, affordable solution treats wastewater on-site. It neutralizes pH, captures solids, and reduces nutrients like phosphorous more than 90% so that they don't impact the environment."

Breweries frequently encounter challenges in adhering to wastewater regulations due to the diverse nature of the brewing process, which varies based on factors such as beer type and brewing phase. Petroni emphasizes, "The BrüClean System enables us to comply with stringent local regulations, allowing us to be responsible neighbors and contribute to the preservation of the Hudson Valley for future generations."
