It also recognizes providers advancing AI-driven optimization, cloud-based utility systems, and digital customer experience platforms. By highlighting organizations driving efficiency, resilience, and intelligent utility operations, we showcase the technology partners essential to modern energy and infrastructure transformation. 

The Selection Framework

Our research team, in collaboration with the Utilities Tech Outlook Editorial Board, an external panel of industry peers, analysts and subscriber-driven nominations, employs a Utilities Technology Value and Performance Index to identify and recognize companies delivering exceptional value to the utilities tech industry. Subscriber input plays an important role in the process, highlighting companies that professionals across the industry would recommend to their peers, choose for their own organizations or regard as best-in-class within their domain.

Nominees are scored on a scale of 1–100 across the following four criteria:

Assessment focuses on how closely a provider supports utility functions such as grid monitoring, asset management, outage response, customer engagement and operational analytics.

Execution Across Utility Technology Environments (25%)
The editorial board examines the provider’s ability to deliver consistently across complex utility systems, integrating with existing infrastructure while maintaining operational continuity and compliance.

Scoring considers measurable improvements in service reliability, operational efficiency, asset utilization, outage reduction and decision-making effectiveness across utility environments.

The "Bona Fide" Editorial Process

• Stage 2: Editorial & Technical Review: Shortlisted organizations are assessed using publicly available information, industry context, and, where applicable, additional non-proprietary inputs shared voluntarily.

• Stage 3: Final Adjudication: Final selections are made by the Editorial Advisory Board, comprising industry peers and analysts, following a comprehensive review of each organization’s capabilities, market relevance and overall impact.
