How many electrical engineering firms do you know that want or are willing to become a construction company? BODEC, Inc. has an interesting tale of inception. The company was established in 2007 in response to requests from clients of Bruno Engineering, BODEC's sister firm. The requests were simple - to provide a design/build, turn-key solution. That was just the beginning. From that day forward, BODEC, Inc. has truly come a long way becoming a key player in the market providing a full range of electrical applications and industrial construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services including comprehensive emergency services in the transmission and distribution industry. According to Dean (Kenny) Davis, the COO at BODEC, their growth is attributable to their ability to field a team of expert professionals who can operationalize a full range of medium and high voltage electrical solutions. “Our high-level technical knowledge, experience, and “hands on” approach enables us to complete even the most complex power engineering designs and installations,” Davis says.

With the combined knowledge and technical skills of BODEC, Inc. and Bruno Engineering, P.C., clients today have access to a full-service electrical firm. The company is committed to providing a customized EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) experience in the transmission and distribution industry from planning and design, permitting and project coordination, equipment procurement, construction management, and project close-out. They even have an “in-house” civil group which allows the firm to self-perform excavation, piping, and concrete.

BODEC specializes in customer-owned substations and power distribution—from 4.16kV to 345kV. The company can design, build, and commission both underground and overhead systems.

BODEC follows a holistic approach that starts with evaluating and validating the economic feasibility of a particular project.

Our high-level technical knowledge, experience, and “hands on” approach enables us to complete even the most complex power engineering designs and installations

Next, BODEC’s team assesses the unique requirements of the client and starts the design process. "It is imperative that we understand the clients’ needs and goals as it helps us to conceptualize the project and identify the requirements to optimize the system. Then we can run the project from start to finish so the client can focus on their core business,” mentions Davis.

Recently, under an EPC contract, BODEC worked with a non-metal mine to upgrade its power system to 34.5kV that transforms to 12.47kV then distributes it to existing facilities as 480-, 240-, and 120-volt systems. The upgrade gives the mine a more robust, reliable power system, engineered to the latest NEC code, while increasing the safety to all personnel at the mine. BODEC crews successfully completed the project two months early and on budget. Based on the success of this project, the mine awarded BODEC a contract for the next phase of the expansion. This is the truest testament to BODEC’s abilities- - -a customer base of repeat customers who demonstrate their trust and respect with new POs.

Success stories like these are powered by BODEC's six decades of combined team experience in handling small-, mid-, and large-scale electrical projects. “Our management team extends its many years of expertise to its customers and acts as a resource for our crews on every project,” states Davis. In addition to a team of highly qualified electrical engineers, the company employs nearly 80 state-licensed, industrial electricians throughout the Intermountain West several of which hold master electrician and MSHA certifications. With physical locations in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming, BODEC is uniquely positioned (and licensed) to meet its customers’ electrical and civil needs,

BODEC has carved a niche in the transmission and distribution space. Currently, on another EPC project, BODEC is constructing a solar- renewable generator interconnection facility which includes a 34.5kV to 138kV interconnection, a standard open-air substation, and a 1.5-mile 138kV transmission line. “We are focusing on EPC contracts that allow us to do what we do best,” informs Davis. “Ultimately, it is our highly-qualified and dedicated team of professionals that has created opportunities for us and will continue to do so in the years to come.”
