FREMONT, CA: A Brief Recap:Initially, the electric vehicles (EVs) were developed by innovators from Hungary, the Netherlands, and the United States in the 1800s. Due to the high cost, low mileage, and low speed of electric cars, their usage was restricted. Though the environmental concerns have always advocated the implementation of electric cars, the breakthrough was never achieved, until recently.
Improvement in Technology
Dominating the electric car market depends as much on improved battery capabilities and speed but also on the price at which it's availed. As of now, all the factors have improved since its inception. New developments in EVs like Aluminum- and zinc-air batteries aim to enhance recharge capabilities, lowering the energy storage cost. Efforts are also put to reduce the recharge time for EVs. In some of the latest models, a full charge battery has the potential to provide a mileage of up to 200 miles.
The Road Ahead for EVs
Some of the major economies like the UK have already set goals for full-fledged implementation of Electric cars. The UK government plans to stop the sales of diesel and petrol models by 2040. It has also stated that hybrid or EVs will comprise nearly half of the new vehicles. Companies like Tesla and some of the major Chinese companies have realized the future demand for this technology and are investing considerable sums in this technology. Northern Powergrid, an electrical distribution company, based in Newcastle, also is actively engaged in EV projects dedicated to helping UK transport system to actualize a low carbon future. This initiative includes a £9.8 m collaboration project led by Nissan that aims to implant 1,000 Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging points into the UK network. This initiative focuses on meeting the surplus energy demand in the future. Currently, the three types of charging include: slow, fast, and rapid and there are initiatives to increase the number of charging grids.
Today, people are realizing and accepting the importance of EVs. With several enterprises around the globe working in this direction, it’s a smooth road ahead for the electric car industry.
